Just announced, a new group workshop with my good friend and fellow landscape photographer Dennis Bromage(link)
Staithes / North Yorkshire Coast Workshop
Monday 19th - Friday 23rd March
The workshop is based at Barrass View(link) a large self contained cottage in the heart of the beautiful sleepy fishing village of Staithes. We are renting the entire cottage for the duration of the workshop so will have the full run of the place giving us plenty of space to relax and the ability to come and go as we wish without getting in the way of other guests.
The workshops will involve three full days of field based photography and plenty of time in the evening to talk through the day's events and review your work. We will meet on the Monday afternoon for introductions and a discussion about the days ahead, followed by a first evening shoot in Staithes. Three full days (dusk till dawn) out on location on the stunning Yorkshire coast will follow and there will also be an option for a further shoot on the Friday morning before we all leave. Breakfast and evening meals are included in the price and myself and Den will be your chef's for the week (yes we can cook!) which means we have total flexibility to come and go when we want, with no fixed meal times. Lunch isn't included but it's intended that we'll just drop into a cafe or pub for a bite whenever's convenient or when we're hungry during the day.
As for locations, this is Den's back yard and he knows the area like the back of his hand and there's enough here to keep us going for a lifetime never mind a week! Staithes is more or less equidistant from the mouth of the river Tees and Robin Hoods Bay so it's this stretch of coast that we will be concentrating most of our efforts on. Along with Staithes itself, which we will of course be exploring in depth, other highlights are likely to be, (from north to south) Paddies Hole, Saltburn, Runswick Bay, Sandsend, Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay... If the weather's right we might also have a foray or two into the North Yorkshire Moors which are also literally on the doorstep. Take a look at Den's image galleries for some inspiration :-)
We will be taking the entire house for the duration of the workshop and the room layout and prices are as follows;
Room One: King Size Double Bed. Single occupant at £620 or a couple (or two mates that maybe don't mind sharing?) £400 each
Room Two: Two single beds. This is a shared room at £520 each (one bed taken)
Room Three: Two single beds. This is a shared room at £520 each
Please do not hesitate to contact myself or Den if you require any further information.

Sun March 4th - Thurs March 8th 2012 - sold out.
NOV 2012 - Mon 5th November - Fri 9th November
The Localsh region and the Isle of Skye are areas of Scotland that have become very dear to me over the last few years.I have teamed up with my good friend and fellow landscaper Dennis Bromage(link) to run two small group workshops(6 people max) in 2012 in March and November based at Tigh Tasgaidh (http://www.tightasgaidh.com/) guesthouse in Dornie (the village next to Eilean Donan Castle) which is run by my good friend Louise who is a most welcoming hostess who is justly proud of her beautiful house and the beautiful countryside that surrounds it.I must add that we have booked the whole of the house so there will be no other guests present.
The workshops will involve three full days of field based photography and plenty of time in the evening to talk through the days events and review our work.We will meet up on the evening before our first full day for introductions and a discussion about the days ahead. There will also be an option for a further shoot on the morning after our last full day.Breakfast and evening meal will be included.
As for locations, where do I start:
Around the Dornie area you have Glen Shiel, dominated by the Five Sisters of Kintail. The little visited Glenelg peninsula is a personal favourite, the wonderful Sandaig Islands, sweeping views of the Sound of Sleat and at the end of the road the stunning Loch Hourn, which provides wonderful views to the mountains of the wilderness region of Knoydart. The picturesque village of Plockton is nearby and there are some lovely coastal locations to be shot here at Plockton itself and Drumbuie.
Slightly further away from the area is the Applecross peninsula which has a stunning coastline with views towards Skye dominated by the outline of the Cuillin Hills.Further still is the Torridon area with it's giant mountains Liatach and Beinn Eighe which are beautiful subjects shot in the vicinities of Upper Loch Torridon or Loch Clair.
The Isle of Skye probably needs no introduction suffice to say places like Elgol and the Storr could keep a photographer happy for days on end.On these workshops I will tend to concentrate on the Southern part of the Island taking in locations such as Elgol, The Sleat Peninsula, Sligachan and Talisker Bay.
Please look at my galleries from the Isle of Skye(skye gallery) and Scotland(scotland gallery) for examples of these locations I have mentioned.
Pricing for Localsh/Isle of Skye workshops:
Romm One: Double Bed - single occupancy £620.Couple or very good friends(!) £450 per person.
Room Two: Two single beds - £570 per person.
Room Three: Double Bed - same prices as Room One.
Room Four: Single Bed - £620.
Myself and Dennis hope that you will consider joining us in this beautiful part of the world for our workshop.
Please contact me if you require any further information about the workshops by using the contact page on this site.
